Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about hotel room control systems, pricing, protocols, and working with HotelGRMS.

What is a GRMS / RCU system?

A Guest Room Management System (GRMS), also called a Room Control Unit (RCU) system, is an integrated hardware and software solution that automates and controls all electrical and environmental systems within a hotel guest room. This includes lighting (dimming and scene control), HVAC/air conditioning, motorized curtains and blinds, Do Not Disturb (DND) and Make Up Room (MUR) indicators, and energy management. The system typically consists of an in-room controller (RCU), wall-mounted switches or touch panels, occupancy and door sensors, and a central server for monitoring and management. A well-designed GRMS improves guest comfort, reduces energy consumption by 20–40%, and streamlines hotel operations.
